How it's
counted.
Every number on this site is rebuilt from the NBA's public play-by-play, one event at a time. Box scores are derived from the reconstruction and checked against the official ones, not copied from them.
Possessions and stints
Substitutions and period boundaries give every player's time on court and every five-on-five stint. A possession ends on a made shot, a defensive rebound, a turnover or the last free throw of a trip. Minutes, plus-minus, on/off and lineup ratings are counted from these stints.
Shots
Each attempt is placed in one of six zones (restricted area, paint, short and long midrange, corner three, above-the-break three) and, for the hot-zone map, split by side into twelve regions. Shot types (layup, pull-up, step-back…) are the feed's own labels and are never inferred from location.
Small samples
Hot zones rate an adjusted percentage: a player's makes blended with the league rate for that zone, weighted by how many attempts he has. The 90% range is printed beside it, and a zone with too few attempts is marked rather than rated.
Scope
The 2026-27 regular season and preseason, shown separately, for every player and team, plus each player's career by season back to 2015-16. Updated once a night after the last games are final; games through Oct 27, 2026.
What is not here
Public play-by-play carries no defender distance, no shot clock at release and no catch-and-shoot flag, so none of those is shown or guessed. Matchups (who guarded whom) are not available from public data either.

- Minimum sample
